Steve Gelb Mini Tube with Inline Percolator – EDiTor’s Piece of the Day 26.01.2012

Steve Gelb makes wonderfully imaginative pieces of glass in a unique style that is always branded with his ‘SG’ signature. One of the leaders of the borosilicate revolution, this piece is another aesthetic gem from the master glass blower himself.

The wonderfully ornate Steve Gelb Mini Tube with Inline Percolator starts with the heavily work bowl. This slide fits into an 18.8mm ground joint and is decorated different sized horns all the way around containing shades of red and blue. Set upon stained coloured glass there is a light green with black outlined ribbon pattern that wraps all the way around the outside of the bowl into the slide itself. This slide is very large and is a major focal point for the piece.

Smoke moves down the bowl into a straight decorated mini tube with a large disc decorated with 6 small red coloured glass horns around it and a coloured switchback design resembling a butterfly. Above the disc there is a small marble with the usual embedded ‘SG’ signature. This piece also has a brown coloured glass imprint with ‘SG’ above the marble.

After passing through the first chamber smoke moves through the incredibly made 7 slit inline perc. Smoke moves into the large cylindrical clear glass chamber before moving up another wonderfully decorate mini tube. The midsection has a beautiful purple, green, blue and black switchback design set upon a pink background. Above this design, there are three worked purple tentacles protruding upwards towards the mouthpiece.

At the top of the waterpipe, there’s a bulbous mouthpiece containing shades of purple, blue and green with 8 black beads around it.

Finally there is a wonderfully crafted clear glass crystal set upon a light blue, green and orange switchback design creating a kaleidoscope effect.

Very clever work done by Steve Gelb!

EDiTor’s Piece of the Day 17.01.2012 – Brandon Martin Electroformed Creature Slide

This Brandon Martin Electroformed Creature Slide is a meticulously detailed fine piece of glass art. This slide is like no other in terms of design and the amount of craftsmanship put into it.

The detail and imagination of Brandon Martin’s work goes beyond even some of the best glass blowers out there. He is a true visionary that makes pieces with details that you’ll come to notice months after owning a piece.

This heady glass slide is mainly made up of red glass and pulled to effect with shades of brown. The shape resembles an ant warrior. There are two black beads which act as the eyes for the creature. The piece has some amazing electroformed work throughout which looks like body armour to the creature. There is an emerald green flat glass circle on one side of the creatures head. One arm is much larger than the other and houses what looks like the end of an electric screwdriver that has been damaged. This protruding screwdriver has electroformed work throughout and adds real aesthetic weight to this piece.

This slide fits into a 14.5mm ground joint and comes with a wooden stand to hold it upright whilst resting.

EDiTor’s Piece of the Day 10.01.2012 – Steve Gelb Double Glass Bubbler

Steve Gelb is a master at his craft, a true artist that consistently produces quality pieces. This Steve Gelb Double Glass Bubbler is testament to that. This luxurious piece of glass art stands an astonishing 1 foot tall and is covered in a soothing green/aqua design that has become a major characteristic of this artist’s work.

There is a fully worked front can that features Rasta reversals throughout the design as well as a striking honeycomb marble that acts as a focal point for the front chamber.

The 2 chamber bubbler (hence ‘double’ bubbler) features a diffused downstem as a well as a snorkel carb attached to the primary chamber alongside 2 reversal millefiori, which complements the style and colour of this masterpiece.

There is also a stunning reticello design mouthpiece that has extra linework done on it to add that extra bit of uniqueness to the piece. One of my personal favourite parts about this piece is the gorgeous 2 arm, treeless perc which is housed in the back can and is emblazoned with the signature ‘SG’ millefiori on the front chamber.

This is nothing less than what we have come to expect from Steve Gelb in terms of style, functionality, quality and uniqueness. This is a very worthy candidate for our EDiTor’s Piece of the Day, so feast yourselves on this eye candy.

Christina Cody is from a rare breed of glass artists. You can look at one of her pieces and immediately recognise her signature style. She is genuinely in this business for the love and thoroughly enjoys being part of this borosilicate revolution. This Christina Cody Sherlock Glass Pipe is one of the few Sherlock Pipe’s that she has nurtured and created and has ended up over here at EDiT.

This quaint Sherlock Glass Pipe contains the brilliant colour contrast of pink and black glass. This functional piece is the perfect travel companion for any glass aficionado.  Based in the states this glass artist is moving collectable glass blowing up to the next level. Known for her seriously detailed glass pipes everyone wants a Christina Cody in their collection.

From the mouthpiece down to the bottom this pipe is a vibrant pink in colour. From the bottom up to the top of the bowl the colour is black in background with a colour filla drawing of an emo girl wearing a pink bow in her light purple coloured hair and a pink necklace. On the other side of the bowl from the carb hole there is a clear marble attached with a semi-precious stone embedded inside.

EDiTor’s Piece of the Day 04.01.2012 – Schmitz Tall Glass Slide

Our EDiTor’s Piece of the Day is this Schmitz Tall Glass Slide. We all know what Schmitz is capable and this is a very affordable slide which is simple in design but done by a master.

This fantastic borosilicate glass slide features an incredible switchback design that is characteristic in a lot of Schmitz’s work. The switchback styles out the top of the glass bowl and acts as the main focal point of the piece.

As usual with Schmitz work, this is manufactured with extreme quality and high standards and that is no different with this piece of glass art.

Fumed Sherlock Glass Pipe with Dichro Marble – EDiTors Piece of the Day

Introducing the Fumed Sherlock with Dichro Marble made by the glass artist Ease. This hand pulled glass Sherlock pipe features a heavily worked mouthpiece which contains a meditative sparkle in amongst the wig-wag style pattern. There is also a similar pattern which features on the neck of the pipe just below the bowl.

The decorative millie’s used help emphasize the colour contrast in the different borosilicate glass used, merging beautifully from deep greens through to the vibrant blues observed.

This piece of american art glass has an enormous decorative milli which enable this glass Sherlock to stand freely and support itself adding to the multi-functionality of this already fantastic piece of glass art.
