Paradise Uncovered! Interview with Luc of Paradise SeedsEarlier this summer we got the opportunity to meet Luc of Paradise seeds and to find out about What makes paradise unique. Hi Luc, welcome to weed world, tell us about paradise. Hello there, thanks, and hello all of you at weed world. The history of our seed bank started in my youth. Many years back the seed was sowed when a new kid came to live in our town. He came from the Dutch peninsula in the Caribbean and had some green and aromatic tea-like substance with him that he had smuggled from there, and the moment I smoked it my life changed forever. The herb had bonded us, this fellow became a friend and we still hang out now many years later. Soon after I had my first encounter with the marijuana, I had a few plants growing very well hidden in my parents garden?after some time abroad I started again with growing when I went to live with my friends in Amsterdam where we had a great space to put plants in and so we did. Here we started the weedbrothers! Years went by without even having knowledge of the ever growing cannabis industry, occupied in just doing our own thing focused on smoking and growing the best quality until we were asked to grow some of that good pot that we were always smoking, for our local coffee shop. We never realised there was so much demand from all the shops in town. But some of my friends learned quickly and soon left the Weedbrothers to go fully into the professional Ganja production. Other housemate and I continued to grow for our selves. Now and then we made a little extra but we were mainly focused on developing always better & tastier varieties and testing new genetics. Many people that visited Amsterdam some ten years ago will remember our 'Mothers milk' from Coffee shop Lucky Mothers! This is also the place where we first released seeds of our own name and produce. We gave away seeds and clones at first?this was if I remember it correct in the beginning of 1993, and we got official with our company the year after in 1994 after the police raid. When we got acquitted by the police judge we were able again to continue our lovely work now fully legal and at ease. The name Paradise Seeds was chosen because I had a vision of the whole world being planted with our favourite herb, a true Paradise in my opinion! We have been very fortunate with so much freedom, too good to be true almost, and indeed since then times have changed for the worse. ![]() Belladonna Tell us about your strains, (How Many, Outdoor, Indoor, Cannabis Cup winners) Right now we have 13 varieties in our assortment and several new varieties in the program, which cover the best part of the cannabis spectrum. Sativas from the South East as well as from South America and Africa, the Indicas from the northern part of the hemisphere complete the palette of our top quality strains. Our selves breed all our varieties. One of Paradise Seeds most popular strains right now is Sensi Star, which is a many times Cannabis cup winner, she is also the "Variety of the Year 2003" (High Times magazine) definitely one of the strongest and tastiest Indicas there is.
Tell us about the award winning Sensi Star Sensi Star is awesome! This variety is unique and winner of many prizes and when you can grow her to her full potential she will be most likely also be among your favourite strains. Sensi Star can give a good yield, is very stoned and potent but not necessary couch lock, if you feel energetic yourself, Sensi Star gives this feeling another push. Some people describe the effect as high rather than stoned. Her taste is one of a kind and mouth watering, so is her bouquet strong and somehow fresh like mint, metal and oxygen combined, crazy, hard to explain, something unique, strong, you should definitely try! Need I say more? Any other favourites? Nebula, a cannabis cup winner as well, also ranks high in popularity. This beautiful mostly Sativa has a rather short flowering period, and is one of the 'highest' Sativas available. Another very popular variety is Belladonna. This pungent weed is sometimes nicknamed time warp? an Indica with Sativa traits, the ideal cross. Paradise Seeds introduced this variety in 1999, and ever since it has gained interest with lovers of trippy and tasty weeds! And recently more and more we hear? pass the Dutch?pass the Dutch Dragon! It's the kindest of buds; a tall plant of fine Sativa quality, Dutch Dragon has superb yields. The aroma is very fruity and sweet, as is the taste, it is simply a wonderful experience to smoke this. ![]() Durga Mata Tell us about your new strains A new variety that we have just released, Rox, is well adapted to colder regions. It has earned this name because of the buds that are hard as rocks, and the rain that can't damage her because it just washes off so no problem with humidity! Apart from that Rox is also an early flowering plant, not the biggest but definitely one of the most solid plants. Dense, both the formation of floral clusters and the 'feelgood' effect on the body and soul. Energetic and direct, even sometimes overwhelming with take off. Don't forget to breathe! It is a beautiful resinous plant, a sister of this year's Swiss cannabis cup winner (2004) named 'Strawberry'. Although the yield is a bit lower then on some other varieties, the buds smaller in size have most of the time more weight to it then you would think. The taste, potency and the only 8 weeks finishing time definitely make up for it! Another new variety is Sativa Spirit, which is a true beauty with nice fat-sized frosty buds! She is well adapted to indoor sea-of-green techniques and also outdoors she gives magnificent yields! It's a pleasure to smoke this delicious herb, which tastes a bit like berries and red grapes. With its uplifting and energizing Sativa high, it is great for going out to town at night or spending an active day. In short, a joyful and exotic all round variety that you will want to grow over and over again. Sativa Spirit is easy to grow and rewarding plant. This Sativa dominant plant finishes in around 9/10 weeks leaving you with a mighty impressive trichome-laden plant. Definitely a keeper! There's also the Magic Bud one of the finest combination of Indica and Sativa. This plant of fine stature produces beautiful resin coated nugs in a relatively short time, approximately 50 days indoor. Her appealing velvet looks during flowering are a pleasure for the eye, and you have to be careful that you (or your friends) do not give into the urge to cut off a branch before she is fully ripened! Your patience will be rewarded with highly resinous, very tasty aromatic buds. When dried the smoke is smooth, making you feel creative and positively-charged! Because of the somewhat bushy growth patterns, a little more space will show the full potential of this plant. And have you heard of Swiss Bliss? This fabulous plant was named Swiss Bliss for its extremely tasty and superb euphoric qualities, but also for its extraordinary life. The mother of Swiss Bliss was taken to Paradise Seeds breeding facility in Switzerland, to be used in a breeding project that was planned there. But the Swiss police raided it, and all plants were confiscated. The Swiss authorities didn't know whether these plants were for legal purposes, and didn't want to take the risk to destroy them and kept all the plants alive. The only Mother of Swiss Bliss was alive over there and doing very well under official Swiss protection! Luckily enough it appeared that one of the guards also smoked and was prepared to 'top' the plant to smuggle it out. This unrooted clone then travelled by post to Holland where it completed the mother plants collection again! Swiss Bliss is a fabulous variety, with mostly Sativa characteristics. The abundant growth and branching pattern makes this variety ideal for pruning. You can put fewer plants per square meter as you would have in a sea of green setup, and still be able to harvest a terrific yield of very nice long sticky buds. The mouth is tickled by beautiful flavours from tropical fruits it's like opening a can of Tutti Fruity. When inhaled you feel in a state of bliss, ecstatic and joyful, really high! Take the challenge of this legend and enjoy her splendour! Growing methods: what type of growing method do you prefer? We have pretty much tried and tested all methods of growing marijuana, but I personally prefer a good soil. We used to prepare the soil ourselves, using horse, cow and chicken manure. Wood ash was added, worm castings, blood and bone meal and perlite. Nowadays you can buy ready-made soils with all of the necessary nutrients in it already. After a couple of weeks we usually add some additional liquid fertilizers and are really satisfied with some stimulators that boost up the plants' life cycle with more and quicker activity which results in better quality and healthier plants and therefore higher yields. All of our seeds are produced fully biological in a rich soil; this has always proved successful for both the production of seeds and weed. Some people grow for yield, others taste or high, I want a good combination of both. To achieve this it is important that the plants are well looked after, then they will reward you with a flavourful, tight, high resin content, sugar tipped nuggets. I really love to see happy plants pouring out resin. ![]() Dutch Dragon And what the future holds for paradise? I'm very optimistic for Paradise future, not only are there many growers around the globe. Countries like Australia, Canada, Spain and also the U.K. are slowly allowing the laws to change in favour of the cannabis plant! By choosing Paradise strains you know that you will get something exceptional from our all our genetic lines. Now after multiple awards over the past years our high standards of quality and our reputation as top quality seed producer is worldwide. Lets keep that growing in the U.K! if you haven't tried or heard about our Sensi Star, go for it, you will not regret it! The same thing I can say for our other strains. You will be glad once you have decided to grow Paradise Seeds. Our research includes the medicinal use of the cannabis plant to develop the best plants suitable for medicine in various forms. We are approved by the IACM, the International Association for Cannabis as Medicine! Another point of study, in which we are progressing rapidly, is the production of stable, female seeds. We want to offer everyone 100% female seeds, problem free with guaranteed viability. These seeds will soon be available from Paradise Seeds. My wish is that all people can decide for themselves whether they would like to use cannabis, instead of being told how to live their lives. Let the Gods that gave us cannabis rejoice when the earthlings are getting high! Thank you again Weed World readers! Luc, Paradise Seeds ![]()
