Free I

Amsterdam Coffeeshop - Free I - Cannabis Cup 2002
Reguliersdwarsstraat 70

Free I was established in 1978, making it one of the oldest registered coffeeshops in Amsterdam. Free I is a Jamaican expression meaning "A Free Man" and shop was named after Free I Dixon who was shot along with Peter Tosh in 1987. Some travel guides have described Free I as "The Bamboo Shop" and with good reason. This shop is totally decorated in bamboo and greenery giving it a nice tropical feeling. It is a small shop catering to locals and tourists. You will enjoy their large selection of teas and interesting assortment of cakes.
Every day they feature a "Happy Hour" from 12 Noon until 2 pm and 6pm until 8pm. During these times you will receive _ gram of weed free with the purchase of 2 grams of your choice. The Free I menu consists of 10 weed varieties and 10 Hash varieties which are mostly Biological. Their philosophy is to only sell top quality weed grown by small home growers. Their best sellers in weed are White Widow, White Russian, Yellow and Power Haze. They recommend a special Hash "Spice Ice" which they say is for advanced smokers as it is quite strong. Pure joints will be available during the Cup.
The owner informed me that this part of the Reguliersdwarsstraat was used for executing witches during the Spanish Inquisition and claims there are still ghosts looming in the houses along that street. A neighbour happened in during this story and verified that he has a ghost in his house. Hey, what can I say... there is a lot of History in this city.
