Oude Kerksplein 54
The
Old Church is located in the heart of the Red Light
District across from the famous "Old Church"
which was the first building erected in Amsterdam. You
may find, as I did, that it is a very strange setting
here with coffeeshops and prostitutes surrounding this
old Catholic Church. Well...that's Amsterdam.
To quote Ms. Tony, the owner of the coffeeshop, "This
is REALLY a tourist coffeeshop and we like it that way"
People from all over the world frequent this shop. The
staff truly enjoys talking, laughing and joking with
the clients. You will find them very polite, courteous
folks, always in good humor.
Established in 1983, The Old Church is one of the oldest
coffeeshops in Amsterdam. Before that it was just a
house with heavy curtains covering the windows where
people came to buy weed. The Old Church coffeeshop is
decorated in golds and browns with dark wood, smoked
glass and greenery; creating a warm feeling throughout.
There is seating as you come in And a nice nook in the
back with a big booth and also more seating upstairs.
The front is all windows facing the Oude Kerk Square.
There is always something happening on this square so
it is a great people watching location. You may find
yourself sitting here for hours at a time.
On the menu are 7 varieties of weed, including one biological
and 6 varieties of hash. If you have questions about
any of their products the staff will be happy to answer
them.
