Located near Leidseplein, Rookies was established in 1992 by two 'Real Amsterdamers'. At the time they were probably the youngest coffeehop owners in Amsterdam, hence the name 'Rookies'. This is one of the largest coffeeshops in the center of Amsterdam with seating for up to 80 persons. The atmosphere is more of a Café/Bar: one of those timeless settings. A huge bar runs the length of the building and there are numerous seating areas situated around the pool table and bar area. The walls are decorated with original artwork and posters. This coffeeshop attracts all types of people from all over the world making it a very interesting place to hang out. Many people like to enjoy a drink with their smoke and Rookies offers both. It has been said that "Rookies" has the atmosphere of the famous "Cheers".
On their menu you will find 7 Weed varieties, all biologically grown and 5 Hash varieties. Pure joints are available as well as bongs. They have full bar service. Rookies is celebrating their 10th anniversary and they have expanded considerably in the last 10 years. Next to Rookies they now have a 3* Hotel; "Hotel Uptown" and across the street is "Rookies Souvenir Shop" plus they operate Private Boat Tours. I would say they are Rookies no more.
