Many
issues surrounding the effects of cannabis on health remain controversial
and ambiguous. The issue of cannabis use is so laden with emotion that
serious investigations into health effects of the drug have often been
coloured by the biases of the experimenter, both for and against cannabis's
potential health hazards, or therapeutic uses. Claims range from those
citing cannabis as a medical miracle, to those blaming it exclusively
for a variety of mental health conditions and fatal diseases.
Any
attempt to summarise issues on this subject runs the risk of oversimplifying
matters. However we have tried to briefly cover the main topics relevant
to cannabis and health.
Information about the effects of cannabis on health has greatly increased,
but there is still a desperate need for further investigation into several
important areas. There are large gaps in knowledge about health consequences,
and an urgent need for further research into therapeutic uses for cannabis.
